Awesome job bringing this music to life with your illustration!

I love how you've painted in various metallic / material objects being pelted by rain to emulate the sound effects in this music, and tie everything together. The character appears to be crying, but the music persists as kind of upbeat -- which is a conflicting detail that I think is nice. Rainy days are always a bit glum and gloomy, but there's something nice and distracting about watching them.

If I had to critique anything in particular, (and take this all with a grain of salt, because it looks lovely as is) I would recommend thickening the lines of anything in the foreground to imply that it's closer to the viewer, and thinning the lines of the details in the background. Rain tends to obscure the details of background elements that are far away, making them sort of faded, so less black and thinner lines can help to imply that and create a sense depth! (here's an example of what I mean in an image with heavy rain: https://images.app.goo.gl/3YQTjDsb3kRaALXF6)

All in all, though, I really like your interpretation of this song, and the character you've created. Perfect choice of medium for such a wet environment, too. Lovely work!

Thank you Sabtastic for the lovely review and constructive criticism. I'll be sure to remember to add depth duly onward~:)

All the best!~

I'm trying not to be biased, but I adore -everything- about this piece.

The music is relaxing, the palette is nice, bright, light and pastel, and the scene you've created goes perfectly with the music you've chosen. The animation loops so nicely, too! If I were browsing around on Youtube looking for something to put on while I worked, I'd definitely pick this.

From a technical standpoint, I really love the cool blue tones vs warm yellows you used in your shadows as the train passes by, and your use of perspective. Everything harmonizes really nicely.

Excellent entry. Keep up the great work!

Wow, thank you so much for the kind words and evaluation! This made my week! I knew you'd be judging the art but didn't expect a personalized message. I've been a fan of your art for quite some time now so this really means a lot. Thank you!

Dang!

Nice work on bringing the spooky dark vibes of this song to life with your art. You really hit the nail on the head for that part. The spoken parts of the song really sound like they'd be voiced by your grinning cyborg character.

Keep up the good work!

So cuuute! 5/5

Nice job bringing KawaiSprite's music to life - you really captured the energetic, bright nature of the music with your use of colour and motion. I'm a fan! Love your other work too, by the way! You've got such a huge range of styles.

Woah thanks Sab !! :/D

Oh man. This is fantastic.

The soft synths paired with the wafting smoke work SO GOOD TOGETHER.
Nice job!

If I absolutely HAD to be critical, the cross at the top getting distorted by the smoke is a tad distracting and could be layered cleaner, but it's honestly not a big enough deal to affect the overall image, IMO.

Seriously a stand-out piece. You're quite skilled.

Love the combination of your art with this music. My mind almost takes it to a retro style animated Cuphead-esque sort of a world. Hopefully that was close to what you were going for!

Awesome job, and nice work with your additional entry!

This is activating some serious 8-bit adventure game nostalgia for me.
Nice work with the character creation, the looping float animation, and the overall harmony of this entry! Really syncs up with the music well. <:

Hahah, solid loop! Awesome job.

This is my kinda content. Great choice of music, and great choice of kittens paired with tanks to go with Killreal's song. Love your contest entry.

OatmealPecheneg responds:

Thanks for review! I really apreciate your feedback! :3

Stellar work.

Everything from the pastel colour palette, the character, and the music harmonize with the whole piece. I love the subtle nod to the music artist with the logo up top, too. You're both quite skilled!

You guys work nicely together--! Could there be more collaborations on the horizon in the future, maybe? *eyeball emojis*

0205sakire responds:

thank you so much!! working with someone like garlagan would certainly be a dream come true,,, but until then I'll just appreciate their music as is

Nice job!

The combined music and artwork make me want to click this image as if it's a title card for a relaxing pixel game. This could look cute on youtube with some simple animation loops like snowflakes falling or smoke rising from the chimney, too--!

Nice job on the lighting and reflections. Love the entirety of this contest entry. You and the music artist LeoBarig complement one another well.

Iviqrr responds:

Thanks for the kind words Sab ^^, I still remember you leaving a review on one of my crappier art things back in 2014 and it was crazy to me at the time that an actual big artist reviewed something of mine. I've more or less ditched regular digital art for pixel art but hopefully I've improved a bit since then.
