New Art Series WIP

Posted by Sabtastic - October 7th, 2013

OMG YOU GUYS, I FINALLY GET TO USE MY TABLET + PHOTOSHOP FOR AN ART PROJECT IN A CLASS!!! AAAA! :D
The prof gave us a super open-ended project that:

1. Involves the body
2. Includes Mark-Making
3. Is comprised of 3-5 related images.

There's a bit more criteria, but for the most part, I sweet-talked her into letting me do something that I would probably draw FOR FUN and eventually SELL anyway. o___o ...I'm still somewhat in denial. It's too good to be true!

Anyway, the main theme I've narrowed down involves body image. I'm trying to embrace the style of Anime as well, seeing as I really enjoy it, and it fits conveniently well with my series. The characters in question are all female villains frompopular anime shows. Android 18, Queen Beryl, and Kneesocks+Scanty. I chose these three because they aren't completely human. They're humanoids, but generally supernatural to some extent. I combined this with the fact that they would all be beautiful models on the cover of magazines. What I'm attempting to point out is that what we generally see on the cover of a magazine is a hyper-idealized, impossible standard that isn't an accurate representation of the average human woman. ...Pretty cliche message, I guess, yeah, but I think it works! :)

So far I'd really like to add Team Rocket's Jesse, and maybe Lust from FMA, but we'll see how much time I get to add to this project.

Oh please add Lust. These all look great so far though, can't wait to see the progress.

I don't know a whole lot about the FMA series--- is she supernatural, too?

Digital mark-making? I remember you did a blue lady (muchafresh) at Pico day last year, that had some fine example(s) of that. So, by hyper-idealized you mean: too tall, oversized lips/breasts/hips (which are now hip again lol)... gotta make a living, go with what sells.

How are you doing with the male form? Getting practice drawing other things too?

I gotta confess, I'm no expert on the show either. I just remember her and Envy having really cool character designs.

Mr Vicarious you are wrong in 1 thing the idealized model contrary to popular believe has a lack of big breast, or "hip" hips (i know is sad), they all are slim (just to not say skinny), you nailed everything else they have da lips, and are tall, they are also white, and i was going to say blonde, but other hair colors have come into play lately, but yeah that isn't really all that noticeable as far as "variety" goes, by that norm Sabtastic actually has Kneesocks and Scanty which are red, so i guess she is fighting the system haha.

Lust's fingers are extending blades that she slices people up with. And she can pretty much regenerate any wound.

Glad to see my suggestion is being used. Good luck!

Really nice chooses. I send my best wishes,Sabby! I would really like to see Lust in this, see is really good example of superhuman. Also Medusa of Arachne both from Soul Eater would be good examples.

animate in there

Boa Hancock from One Piece, Revy from Black Lagoon`? Stella from Phantom Pain? Would be fun to see how they'd turn out! Looks good btw.

DO JESSIE!
