I knew you weren't a wuss....erm...

I understand the initial shock of it. I'm a seasoned vet for nude figure drawing but when I first started it was definitely a strange feeling. Like you try not to stare too long at certain areas:) But good for you for going. Your life drawing skills are really solid and if Art is your passion, drawing from life is the most important thing you can do. So keep going to that class and keep posting more of your stuff!

Dont worry, its better than most of the ppl.
Like me, my biggest art its a stickman :(

I forgott to tell you
in the right sketch in the lower left corner
that boy (or girl?) is going to give me nightmares...

haha - it's all from the same model, so it's female. XD

nice pictures
BUT WTF WITH THE FAT GUY LINK
Your lucky your awesome

lmao - sorry XD

When I read this, I thought : "Finally, Sabrina's gettin' naked !"

but no... <_<

can i touch your boobs

no. :|

you still nailed it though
(as expected)
..

CAN YOU GET ANYMORE AWESOME-ERR

hey did you see a red shirt guy around here

I hate to say this, but after a while, you may get desensitized to nudity. This is both a boon and a bane for artists. It's sort of how a doctor becomes desensatized to working with people...it's just "another patient" to them. Some artists just see it as "another picture", regardless of whether they're drawing a nude, a bowl of fruit, a landscape. This makes it way easier to draw nudes, since they're over their awkwardness, but it also means they've lost some connection with the subject matter. When you're doing nudes, it's good to feel awkward. It helps you connect with them. It helps you imagine in your mind what kind of person they are, what kind of life they've had, and that will come out in your pictures. Many artists get so desensatized, that they no longer express any emotion or empathy in their work; they're just cranking things out. That's why, while some my fear getting stuck with "the fat guy", it could actually be one of the most liberating artistic experiences you will ever have. This person is bearing it all to you, and you, as the artist, are the judge, jury and executioner. You hold their eternalized fate in your hands for how you want to draw them. You can be prejudiced, and draw them as a fat, slovently whatever. Or, you can empathize with them. Maybe they have an endocrine issue that causes their obesity. Maybe they are a father of 5 kids, and just don't have the time to exercise as much as they used to, while stress has prompted them to eat more. EVERY artist can draw beautiful things beautifully, and horrible things horribly.

For instance, every artist worth their salt can draw a beautiful girl so she'll look beautiful in the picture. And every artist can draw a horrible scene, let's say murder, so it conveys horror and shock.

But it takes a special kind of artist to take pity on an ugly subject and help others see the raw, bare, innocence of the subject, of how they're willing to bare themselves for judgment.

It's sort of how "you can tell the quality of a person by how they treat those they don't have to treat well." Well, you can tell the quality of the artist by how they render those they don't have to render well...or those that would normally be hard to render.

This is why artists who do oil paintings of disfigured people or bleak settings (like a New York alley) ... that's a real test of your artistic abilities. If you see beauty in something that others shy away from, like the beauty of a disfigured person willing to show their spirit and self-esteem by posing as a nude... your test as an artist is to convey that beauty so others can see it. When others look at your work, and they feel sympathy, remorse, or just a connection with him ... then you are a true artist.

...Wow... That has got to be one of the most eloquently put descriptions of artistry i've ever read!
I only wish I could accurately convey those emotions through my work. I'm still getting there, but I hope to do it as a second nature someday. Like all great artists could.

Thankfully, like you mentioned, I can still appreciate/feel the awkwardness of it all. Now I can treasure it more than ever! Yay!

P.S: Expect a PM really soon. I don't feel that a short reply does your enlightening comment justice. lol

are you some kind of prostitute

are you some kind of re-re?

you should do a ton of 30 sec to 1 min drawings. That's the way I was taught... and while it seems like you're drawing like a madman, it really helps you understand the overall pose and weight of the figure after a while.

U ARE MAH HEROOO!!!!
i decided on my life career from this :D

WOW What a great passion regarding drawing i never seen this kind of passion in any girl.

great work keep doing this kind of work.

:P

I am a fan of your work. I haven't checked in for awhile, which is something I should have done. Now, while I'm sure you get this often, those sketches are amazing. Perhaps it is my own inability to draw, but the nude sketch you provided her has spot on proportion, shading, and everything looks... natural, organic.

As for the awkwardness of the moment, I have to agree with TheRandomDot. One would get desensitize towards it. Much like I have with violence and nudity, due to my line of work, things you work with more, you will become more comfortable around. He also made an excellent point in that the artist holds that model in their hands. For you will immortalize them on paper with your pencil.

Well done for working up the bravery to do something to improve your skills, and learn something new. It'll make you better as a person, and an artist. I look forward to seeing more from you. Keep it up.

Oh yes. Yer also awesome for being Canadian :P

Just a bit of bias in there...

Holly crap! Those are awesome sketches. I have been doing life drawing for the last 3 years, and my first expirience with a naked model was 2 years ago, female as well. Perhaps not as aestetic as the one you had, but it was fun, also that was the very first time I used paint on lifedrawing. I have a couple of those things uploaded here if you are interested.

Well life drawing is a tool, you can always come back to those sketches and find the feeling you want to portray already there, be it a fat guy, a granny or a sexy model. It might sound understimating, and if you already knew it, please dont take me wrong, either way I´m kinda late to post this. Anyways don´t forget that the model is also ofering the pose, he/she is the one who is creating the very first stage of what might become a masterful piece.

I wish I had master Artemio here (I say master cause Im his apprentice) to say something more poetical, perhaps some other day.
